A recent multi-centre study presents novel findings on the effective treatment of haemorrhoids with HAL-RAR.

A publication appearing last week in European Surgery presents the intriguing results of a multi-variate analysis, which was carried out to determine which factors have a statistically significant impact on the treatment’s efficacy. In addition to containing the first-ever analysis of this kind, the study is also the first multi-centre observational trial designed to assess both the safety and effectiveness of this treatment option. A total of 184 patients with either grade III or grade IV haemorrhoids, treated by surgeons from seven centres in Austria, Australia, Poland, Italy, Russia, India and the UK were included in the study, with results recorded at follow-up of both 3 and 12 months. At 12 months, 89% of patients were completely free of symptoms and 88% were satisfied with the result.
