BMI (Body Mass Index)

BMI is an internationally-recognised system used to determine a person’s weight status.

  • How to calculate your BMI:
Weight  / (Height x Height) 

Underweight:
Normal weight:
Overweight:
Obese:

BMI under 18.5
BMI 18.5 to 24.99
BMI 25 and over
BMI 30 and over

The BMI is used by doctors to determine whether surgery should be considered as a treatment option for an overweight or obese patient. They will also take into account any other illness or ailment affecting the patient as a result of the obesity.
