As part of the A.M.I. training program, we were invited to visit Dr. Martin Kurosch at the “Universitätsmedizin der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität” in Mainz, Germany.  Dr. Kurosch is the senior surgeon at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Urology and Pediatric Urology. He has many years of experience in treating male stress urinary incontinence with various treatment options.

In the A.M.I. surgical workshop “Treatment of male stress urinary incontinence with ATOMS”, Dr. Kurosch discussed various therapy concepts with the participants and invited them into the operation theatre to learn the implantation steps.

“After conservative therapy has failed, various surgical treatment options must be considered. These can range from implantation of slings, adjustable systems or even artificial urinary bladder sphincters. The use of different systems, depending on the severity of the stress incontinence, the previous treatments and the needs and expectations of the patient himself becomes increasingly important. I have been using ATOMS for many years. The implant combines a minimally-invasive and low-risk method with the possibility of individual and simple pressure adjustment after surgery,” explained Dr. Kurosch after the workshop.

The next ATOMS workshops with Dr. Kurosch are planned for the first half of 2022. Pre-registrations are now possible at workshops@ami-deu.de.
